Welcome to the Jungle
While perusing the Shadowland help wanted section, the group finds a search
and recover mission marked urgent with a timeline within the next five days.
THE SETUP:
The Johnson requests that the group equip for a trip into the Amazonian jungle
basin to retrieve communications equipment from a downed LTA (Lighter Than Air
Craft). The company is not in the area legitimately and needs to have no affiliation
with the rescue procedures. The company is willing to pay a sum of 50,000¥
per person for the successful retrieval of the gear plus a bonus for any information
as to how the craft went down. The group must be on a plane by the next morning,
so a decision is vital. Customs is not an issue, as the group will be dropping
out of a drop plane disguised as a commercial airliner from an altitude of 15,000
meters into the jungle. A descent control drone will control their descent
with slaved aerodynamic control fins on each member’s chute. Once the mission
has been completed, a VTOL will be sent in to retrieve the group.
TRUE STORY:
The Johnson had a cover story of cargo riding aboard Pelican LTA Couriers across
the Amazonian basin (what was once Brazil, about 245 km east of the city of
Brasilia, along the coast). The cargo was in fact aerial surveying and recon
gear surveying portions of the rain forest in search of some sort of man sized
paranormal creature, possibly a metahuman variant. Pelican LTA Couriers was
handed a very large chunk of money to rig it’s LTA ship, PLCI Pedro, with stealth
baffles and ECM gear and stray from the normal course in a broad search pattern.
In the middle of the basin, Pelican LTA lost contact with the Pedro
at an altitude of about 75 meters. There was a brief pulse of static and then
nothing. This happened two days before the meeting with the recovery crew.
All received data before the event indicate clear weather with no heavy winds.
An Amazonian Reserve Corps SAM, mistaking the craft for an Aztlan
spy craft, hit the Pedro. The LTA lost radio contact immediately as the cockpit
was blown away in the explosion. Remaining in the air for a while longer, it
had a chance to create some distance between the guards before crashing into
the thick jungle of the basin.
The envelope was completely shredded upon impact with the trees,
sending the craft tumbling onto the jungle floor far below, leaving no noticeable
trace of it’s passing. The canopy is crumpled slightly with a missing cockpit,
and the cargo section is completely intact, except the surveillance gear is
missing.
A band of guerillas has found it within their best interest to
remove the gear and see what it contained. The guerillas have only a half-day’s
lead on the group but it is apparent that they are more skilled in this terrain
than the group is. When they are caught up with, they have made camp and one
of the guerillas has started dissecting the components.

The guerillas are traveling on foot through the jungle and are camouflaged
to match the surrounding terrain. They are very familiar with their environment
and know where all the hiding spots are. They are heading toward their base
approximately 15 km away.
Unbeknownst to the party and the guerillas, they have company. A patrol of
Aztlan Special Forces has also been alerted to the downed aircraft and they
are interested in the Mitsuhama equipment. This group has a mage as well as
the rest of the group.
The group has about a 20 hour head start on the Aztlan patrol but the patrol
has the advantage in knowledge of terrain.

Notes: |
This metahuman variant is lizard like with hide like a chameleon. Although
not completely concealable, it is capable of creating basic patterns and
colors. Even though it appears extremely intimidating to see, it is actually
quite peaceful in nature and will not attack unless provoked. It is cultured
and civilized and may actually know some English or Portuguese just by
listening and learning from soldiers and poachers it has observed.
Standard coloration ranges from light brown to pale white and can alter
appearance to the full spectrum of visible colors with distinct pattern
variances possible. It’s primary habitat is in platforms and huts suspended
and hidden under the canopy of the rain forest. Their primary source
of food is fish from the ocean inlets and wild forest animals. |
